Enhancing Brewery Experiences: The Benefits of Mobile Food Eateries at Breweries and Taprooms

The rising popularity of craft beer and the thriving brewery/taptoom scene have given birth to a delightful symbiotic relationship between mobile food eateries and breweries/tap rooms. Food trucks and carts stationed outside these establishments have become a common sight, and for good reason. These mobile culinary havens bring a host of benefits, enhancing the overall brewery experience for both beer enthusiasts and food lovers alike. In this article, we will explore the advantages of having mobile food eateries at breweries and taprooms.

While many will claim we live in a post-Covid era, the changes that occurred as the result of the pandemic are still impacting some industries..

“When we were discussing ideas before opening our brewery, we knew food would be a huge factor in keeping customers around for another drink,” said Valarie, Co-Founder of Bevel Brewing in Bend, OR. “After laying out the options, from opening our own food cart to opening a small kitchen, we knew either would be too much for our small team to handle. We wanted to make sure food was always available so we included hookups for four food carts to make this their permanent home through the year.”

Perfect Pairings

One of the key advantages of having food trucks or carts parked outside beer centric establishments is the opportunity for perfect pairings. Craft beer and gourmet food often go hand in hand, and having a diverse range of food options right outside the tap room allows patrons to explore the art of pairing flavors. Whether it's a juicy burger, delicious tacos or artisanal pizza, mobile food eateries can complement the diverse range of flavors found in craft beer, enhancing the overall tasting experience.

“We hear every day how people love the variety that multiple food trucks on a property provides,” Valarie said. “For large groups, or picky eaters, having the choice of varying cuisines is great. Currently our carts offer our customers the option of Mexican favorites, Build-Your-Own Mac’n Cheese, Sliders and Handmade Fries, and Family-Inspired Global Cuisine.”

Variety and Adventure

Mobile food eateries offer a refreshing change from traditional brewery settings. They introduce a dynamic element to the experience by providing a rotating selection of culinary offerings. From fusion cuisine and international delicacies to innovative twists on classic comfort food, these food trucks and carts bring a sense of adventure to the brewery scene. Patrons can savor an ever-changing menu, allowing them to explore different flavors and expand their palate.

Community Building

Food trucks and carts have an inherent ability to foster a sense of community. They create a gathering point where people can come together to enjoy good food and great company. By encouraging customers to dine outside, breweries and taprooms facilitate social interactions and provide opportunities for people to connect over shared culinary experiences. This communal atmosphere enhances the overall ambiance of the brewery and promotes a lively and welcoming environment.

Flexibility and Convenience

Unlike fixed restaurant establishments, mobile food eateries offer flexibility and convenience. They can adapt to the needs and preferences of the brewery's patrons. Whether it's a busy Friday night or a laid-back Sunday afternoon, food trucks and carts can adjust their offerings and presence accordingly. The mobility factor allows breweries to provide their customers with a variety of dining options without the constraints of space or infrastructure.

Supporting Local Businesses:

Food trucks and carts are often local businesses themselves, and their presence at breweries and taprooms fosters a mutually beneficial relationship. Breweries can support local entrepreneurs and culinary talents, helping them showcase their creations to a larger audience. Simultaneously, these mobile food eateries attract customers to the breweries, creating a symbiotic cycle that boosts the local economy and strengthens the sense of community.

“The biggest aspect that these food carts have provided for me as a business owner is knowing food is not an afterthought, but a passion,” Valarie said. “Food cart owners love the food they serve and work hard to keep their business open and thriving. It really helps create a sense of community on our property knowing that we are all fully committed to what we are providing.”

The brewery taproom with a food park is a casual efficient service model that provides not just a place to gather and enjoy craft beer, but is family and pet friendly, adding to their allure. With port a potties, outdoor hand washing stations, families and pets, beer venues that embrace this approach are reaping the benefits of this winning combination.

Immediate closures as a result of the immediate lockdown combined with other forces are enough to severely impact not just mobile food and restaurants, but also the brewing industry.

Considerations to social distancing first forced eateries outside; the first return of dining and drinking for many took the form of parklets and outdoor seating. When weather became a factor, heating and covering became necessary. Food trucks operate year round in Bend, Oregon and they have adapted to suit the climate, modifying their customer seating areas.

Mobile eateries have become an integral part of the brewery and taproom experience. They provide an avenue for creative culinary exploration, enhance the overall ambiance, foster community engagement, and support local businesses. So the next time you visit a brewery or taproom, be sure to check out the tantalizing treats waiting outside - a perfect pairing of craft beer and mouth-watering fare.
